Valance
Sam picked out the Superman material for this valance for his and Jonah's room. It only cost $2.00 so it won't be a big deal to replace when he tires of Supeman. I added a simple lining.

Can you recommend a super easy pattern so that I can begin a sewing project? The last time I really sewed anything was in home ec in junior high years ago. I get the basics, just wanted to start out small.

You could start with something square, such as a pillow or a small pin cushion that doesn't need a pattern.
If you want a simple pattern, I would try one of Simplicity's "Sewing for Dummies".
